This book belongs to the series of “Blauen Bücher”…

Not quite Brick Expressionism, but a compilation of the building activity of Fritz Schumacher in Hamburg, written by Hermann Muthesius in 1919.

This book from 1938 contains many buildings in the style of the “3rd Reich”, such as barracks, ministries, Ordensburgen and also autobahns. But it also includes some industrial buildings that can be assigned to the “Neues Bauen” movement, and a building by Fritz Höger, the Rüstringen town hall.

This book from 1926 presents the works of Otto Bartning, here singled out the buildings for the Zeipau roofing-stone and lignite works AG in Zeipau (Lower Silesia).

Besides other interesting buildings by Emil Fahrenkamp and Hans Hertlein, this book also contains an illustration of the Church at Hohenzollernplatz (German).

To find out how one comes to run a blog on “”, we have to travel far back into my past: Sometime in childhood, in the first half of the 80s, I was regularly driven through Wulsdorf, a district of Bremerhaven. Always the same route, always on the way into “town”. Maybe to the grandparents or to go shopping, I can no longer say exactly where.

The first entry is about the inspiration for some design elements. They are taken from the cover of the 1934 calendar of the Hannoverscher Anzeiger. A very beautiful depiction of the Anzeiger Hochhaus in Hanover by Fritz Höger. Unfortunately, apart from the advertisement at the end, this illustration is all there is on the subject in the calendar.
